On Saturday, May 29th, Professor Arthur Melo participated in the Gaucho Meeting of Suzuki Piano Teachers at the Tio Zequinha School of Music, Porto Alegre/RS.
On the morning of May 9th, 2026, a group lesson was held at the Suzuki Center in Novo Hamburgo, taught by Professor Arthur Melo, with the participation of piano, violin, and guitar students. Check out some images below.
What's new at Centro Suzuki NH
New Courses! Check out the new music teaching courses at Centro Suzuki Novo Hamburgo, led by teacher Micheli Ávila! The music education offered at CSNH is organized sequentially into three stages: Music for Babies, Children's Musicalization, and Musical Initiation. Each of these modalities has specific objectives, carefully planned so that children may develop fully through music. By means of sound experiences, movement, listening, and creative expression, children become more sensitive, communicative, and imaginative, also strengthening cognitive, emotional, and social aspects. Music is experienced in a playful and affectionate way, respecting each child's individual rhythm and valuing the pleasure of discovering and creating sounds. Check it out!
Music for Babies
from 8 months to 2 years and 6 months:
• Stimulate sensory development through varied sounds, timbres, and rhythms.
• Develop motor coordination through body movements accompanied by music.
• Promote communication and language, encouraging babbling, vocalizations, and word recognition in songs.
• Strengthen the emotional bond between child and parents through shared musical activities.
• Foster interest and enjoyment in music, stimulating listening, sensitivity, and spontaneous expression.
Children's Musicalization
from 2 years and 6 months to 5 years
• Stimulate rhythmic and melodic perception, exploring sounds with instruments and the body.
• Develop motor coordination and body expression through dance, gestures, and musical games.
• Expand musical vocabulary, learning lyrics, instrument names, concepts, and sound parameters.
• Promote socialization and group work.
• Encourage creativity and imagination, transforming the classroom into a place of creation.
Musical Initiation
Children aged 5 to 6
• Musical perception: recognizing pitches, timbres, intensities, and different types of sounds.
• Rhythm and pulse: developing coordination and a sense of timing through rhythmic games and body percussion.
• Hearing and concentration: listening attentively to a variety of music, identifying patterns and sound differences.
• Expression and creativity: creating short melodies, improvisations, and body movements related to music and reading music.
• Introduction to musical instruments: first encounters with instruments (piano, violin, guitar, etc.), learning posture, care, and sound exploration.
About CSNH
Centro Suzuki Novo Hamburgo
The Centro Suzuki Novo Hamburgo [CSNH] was founded in 2024 by professor Arthur Melo, who brought his experience of more than twenty years in teaching piano, combined with the expertise of teachers with a solid musical training. All CSNH teachers have a degree in music (Faculty), in addition to many other training courses.
CSNH offers music classes adopting the SUZUKI METHOD™, as it understands that this method encompasses values that are very precious to the lives of students. CSNH's vacancies covers, so far, the following musical instruments: Piano, Violin, Viola, Cello and Acoustic Guitar.
Quoting the Suzuki Association of the Americas [SAA] website, the Suzuki Method™ was developed by Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, and has several core components. While each teacher might offer their own interpretation of the Method, we have a few core tenets that guide our work.
1. We believe that all children are capable and deserving of becoming great musicians. The first course in our Teacher Development program is called 'Every Child Can!' [Suzuki Phylos] because, well, that’s what we believe. Those of us who practice the Suzuki Method know that talent is learned, not inborn. With the right support, every child can be successful.
2. We teach music based on how young people learn language. Dr. Suzuki called this the mother-tongue approach. When teaching young people how to read, we do not ask them to read before they can speak. Young people do not learn words for the purpose of learning to read a book; they learn to speak so that they can express themselves. In our approach, we do the same! We teach students by ear first, and we teach so students can express themselves through music. Each technical exercise is presented within the context of music and intended to develop the ability to communicate through music.
3. We encourage students to listen to music – A LOT. We know children learn words from listening. Similarly, listening to music offers students a bigger vocabulary for musical expression.
4. We love having families involved in student learning. Whether it’s a parent, grandparent, guardian, or an adult who is regularly involved in a young person’s life, we believe finding an adult that can support a student in their learning – in addition to their teacher – is a wonderful way to support student success. We know that for some students, this may not always be possible. Some of our teachers find creative and innovative ways for additional at-home support – and we encourage this too.
5. We lead with a positive environment and encouragement in our music lessons.
6. In addition to private lessons, students should expect to take part in group lessons and performances. Students are encouraged to learn with and support one another in their growth.
7. The purpose of learning music is not to become a professional musician (though, for some, that’s important too!), but instead, our goal is to support young people in their development as life-long learners with kind hearts! Music gives us skill sets well beyond our instruments, and we focus on developing those skill sets alongside our instrumental technique.

Director and Piano Teacher at CSNH
Professor Arthur Felipe Moreira de Melo has a degree in music, with an emphasis on Piano, from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), a master's degree in Theology from Faculdades EST and a doctorate in Theology also from Faculdades EST. He is a professor at the Faculty of Music of Instituto Ivoti. He is also a piano accompanist and Suzuki piano teacher at the Associação Pró-Cultura e Arte Ivoti (ASCARTE), as well as piano teacher and coordinator of the Centro Suzuki Novo Hamburgo. Professor Arthur has extensive experience in organizing Recitals, Concerts and Festivals, having promoted three versions of the Encontro de Jovens Instrumentistas de Ivoti/RS, the first edition of the Festival Musivoti, and several concerts and recitals by instrumental groups. He is currently the coordinator of the Grupo Hamoniza, made up of students and graduates of the Music Degree course at Faculdade Instituto Ivoti. Violin and Viola teacher at CSNH
Micheli Tais de Ávila holds a Music Teacher Training degree from Faculdade Instituto Ivoti (2024) and is currently graduating in Music Therapy at Faculdade Metropolitana. Micheli has been working as a music teacher, offering ukulele, piano, guitar, and singing classes since 2015. In 2022, she founded the school 'Micheli Ávila - Educação Musical', seeking to offer home-based care for students of all ages. Her experience in early childhood and elementary education began in 2015, working as a music teacher at Magia do Amor Early Childhood Education School, Zé Carioca Early Childhood Education School, Mundo Encantado Early Childhood Education School, and Petit Poa. While still an undergraduate, she had the opportunity to participate in programs such as the Pedagogical Residency and PIBID, teaching music in the final years of elementary school and high school at Princesa Isabel and Walter Hermann schools. In addition to her undergraduate degree, Micheli has completed Lucia Passos' "Canto em todo Canto" course and has participated in various training courses and events in the field of music education, such as the Music Education Teachers' Course Module I (2023) at EMJ with Luciana Nagumo and several music education courses with Margareth Darezzo, Teca Alencar de Brito, Estêvão Marques, Thiago Di Luca, Uirá Kuhlmann, Cyntia Soares, Danilo Batucadan, Breeze Rosa, and Sandra Oak.
Guitar teacher at CSNH
Professor Pedro Perius graduated from the Normal Course at Secondary Level (Teaching) and has a degree in Music from the Ivoti Institute, as well as training courses from the Suzuki Association of the Americas as a guitar teacher. He has worked as a Suzuki guitar teacher since 2017 at the Centro Sinodal de Ensino Médio de Sapiranga Duque de Caxias, also serving as a music teacher in Elementary School and as an instrumentalist accompanying the choirs of the same institution. Professor Pedro is a Suzuki guitar teacher at the Caxias Ensemble Music School, having participated in several concerts with the School Orchestra in the region. He is also a guitarist and singer with Grupo Harmoniza, a group formed by students and graduates of the Music Faculty of the Instituto Ivoti. Bringing this professional background, Pedro is now the guitar teacher at Centro Suzuki Novo Hamburgo.
Violoncello teacher at CSNH
Teacher Richer Edemar da Silva de Vargas holds a degree in music from Faculdade Instituto Ivoti. He is also a teacher at Colégio Sinodal São Leopoldo and is currently a cellist at Camerata Ivoti. Richer Vargas also has extensive experience with the 10-string viola (viola caipira) and singing, having even participated as a soloist in Camerata Ivoti's 2024 European tour. Under the pseudonym Rick Vargas, he has performed on several stages, including TV Câmara, in Brasília/DF, alongside his father, Adão Vargas, with whom he forms a country music duo, playing the viola caipira and singing. Richer Vargas is also a member of Grupo Harmoniza, where he sings, plays viola caipira and cajón. With a broad experience, moving between classical and popular music, Teacher Richer Vargas is now the cello teacher at Centro Suzuki Novo Hamburgo.
Viola and Violin teacher at CSNH
Thiago de Souza Pinto has a Bachelor's degree in music, under the guidance of Ms. Hella Frank, from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). He also completed part of his training with professor Renato Bandel (SP). He is a violin and viola teacher at ASCARTE (Associação Pró Cultura e Arte - Ivoti) and violist at Camerata Ivoti. He has been teaching for over 10 years, taking part in several music schools and social projects in Porto Alegre/RS. His Suzuki training includes the following courses: Philosophy - 2018 - Renata Pereira (BR), Violin/Viola Unit 1 - 2019 - Edward Kreitman (USA), Violin/Viola Unit 1 - 2020 - Eduardo Ludueña (ARG), Violin/Viola Unit 2 - 2021 - Edward Kreitman (USA), Violin/Viola Unit 3 - 2022 - Edward Kreitman (USA). In his pedagogical training he also participated in the Course "Collective Violin Teaching", taught by professor José Márcio Galvão (BR/SP) and "The art of studying Violin to move people" taught by professor Carmelo de Los Santos (USA). In addition, he participated in more than 20 international music festivals in Brazil, in which he took classes with renowned musicians from Brazil and abroad such as Daphne Gerling (USA), Susan Dubois (USA), Kate Hamilton (USA), Gabriel Marin (BR), Alexandre Razera (ALE), Roman Spitzer (ISR), Carlos Aleixo (BR), Katerine Murdok (USA), Mark Neumann (USA), Horácio Schaefer (BR), among others.
